CHARACTER & DESIGN OF JETBUS 5

Jetbus 5 represents my fourth major design contribution and the fifth generation of the Jetbus Series—an evolution that reflects not only a progression in form, but also the maturation of its overall design philosophy.

As lead designer, I guided the development of Jetbus 5 in close collaboration with the internal design team at PT Adi Putro Wirasejati. The project encompassed a comprehensive design scope, covering the front, side, and rear exterior, as well as the interior environment, including detailed elements such as AC louvers, ducting, and the cabin lighting concept.

The Equestrian Knight as an Expression of Motion, Direction, Character, and Courage

The Equestrian Knight philosophy is a legacy concept revived from the PT Adi Putro company logo reinterpreted as a symbol of movement, direction, character, and bravery.

The front of Jetbus 5 is designed as the primary expression of its character. Its form and composition suggest the image of a horse’s headsharp, focused, and ready to charge forward. This is a modern interpretation of the equestrian knight philosophy that has become the visual DNA of Adiputro.

THE FORM OF A SYMBOL

A coach that carries the spirit of the equestrian knight, transforming an emblem into a philosophy of strength, direction, and elegance on the road.

Front Fascia: A Sharp and Focused Horse’s Head

"As the Lead Designer for the Jetbus 5 front lighting, I directed the project in collaboration with the internal design team at PT Adi Putro Wirasejati. My vision was to introduce a bold new design language that clearly distinguishes it from previous generations, marking a new chapter in the Jetbus visual identity with a more modern, refined, and futuristic look.

I established a new layout strategy where the Daytime Running Light (DRL) is positioned at the upper section, serving as a strong visual signature that defines the vehicle's character. By integrating the main headlamps into the bumper area, we achieved dynamic proportions while reinforcing a high-tech, progressive appearance.

Ultimately, this design direction not only elevates the visual expression of the Jetbus 5, but also cements its status as a visionary, forward-thinking coach."

REPETITIVE DRL MOTIF: LUXURY IN THE DETAILS

The repetitive motif within the Daytime Running Light (DRL) creates a sense of luxury and modernity when viewed up close. This graphic approach reflects meticulous design thinking and reinforces a premium impression, small details with a strong visual impact.

THE EVOLUTION OF JETBUS LIGHTING LANGUAGE

Jetbus 5 represents the culmination of the Jetbus Series’ lighting evolution bringing together character, identity, and contemporary expression into a single, refined, and cohesive design language.

Side Design Variation — Inspired by the Horse’s Legs

The side design variation is shaped by the rhythm and strength of a horse in motion. Its flowing lines embody momentum, balance, and purpose expressing the spirit of forward movement. Even at rest, Jetbus 5 carries the presence of motion, as if ready to surge ahead at any moment.

UPPER SIDE DESIGN VARIATION

The upper side design variation of Jetbus 5 is inspired by the lance of a mounted knight, an symbol of direction, speed, and courage.
The upper front side lamp draws its form from the blade-like tip of the lance, expressing focus, sharp intent, and forward momentum.
The upper rear side lamp takes inspiration from the tail of the lance, representing balance and control—an essential counterweight to speed and power.

Together, these elements function as a strong visual signature, emphasizing that Jetbus 5 does not merely move forward, but advances with clarity of purpose, confidence, and disciplined strength.
Jetbus 5 embodies motion with meaning—where design leads the journey.

JETBUS 5 REAR LIGHTING DESIGN

"Inspired by the fluid motion of a horse's tail, the Jetbus 5 taillights deliver a graceful and dynamic presence. The flowing light serves as an elegant gesture, seemingly greeting the road left behind.

This design elevates the taillight from mere function into a powerful visual identity. It ensures the Jetbus 5 leaves a memorable and recognizable impression on every route, signaling to everyone who sees it that this is, unmistakably, a Jetbus 5."

INTERIOR DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

CONCEPT & INSPIRATION

Tranquility, Comfort, and Meaning Within the Journey The Cabin as a Journey Space. The interior of Jetbus 5 is designed not merely as a seating area, but as a journey space—a place where passengers feel calm, comfortable, and protected throughout their trip.

WARM WHITE LIGHTING: LUXURY AND A HOME-LIKE ATMOSPHERE

The use of warm white lighting at 2700 Kelvin creates a warm and luxurious ambiance. This lighting delivers a calming, home-like feeling, especially suited for long-distance travel.

AC LOUVERS AS A DESIGN ELEMENT

The AC louvers and ducting are designed to blend seamlessly with the interior aesthetics. Their form is not only functional, but also contributes to the overall visual character of the cabin.

SLEEPING LIGHT INSPIRED BY THE HORSESHOE

Inspired by the horseshoe, a timeless symbol of endurance and travel, the sleeping light is subtly stylized into the louver design. This gentle illumination reflects the Jetbus 5 philosophy, where exterior character and interior comfort are seamlessly connected.

THE ROMAN NUMERAL V MOTIF: A VISION OF HOPE IN MOTION

This recurring interior motif is inspired by the Roman numeral V (5), which refers to the official naming of Jetbus 5. In terms of product development, Jetbus 5 represents the continuation of the previous generation (the fourth generation). However, it was deliberately named Jetbus 5 as its formal model identity. Roman numerals carry strong historical significance. Throughout history, numbers and symbols have often served as identity markers, including those found on the armor of mounted knights—symbolizing clarity of role, courage, and a defined sense of direction. These values are translated into the design language of Jetbus 5.

The Roman numeral V is then stylized and arranged into a circular pattern that radiates toward all cardinal directions—west, north, east, and south. This design philosophy represents a vision of hope that Jetbus 5 would be present, used, and embraced across every region of the nation.Today, that vision has become reality. Just one and a half years after its launch, in 2024, Jetbus 5 recorded sales of over 1,500 units within a single year. This achievement reflects the widespread distribution of Jetbus 5 throughout Indonesia, aligning perfectly with the four-cardinal-direction philosophy embedded in its design.

More than just numbers, this milestone establishes Jetbus 5 as the best-selling bus in Indonesia, while setting a new sales record in the national bus industry.

CLOSING ONE CHAPTER, OPENING A NEW HORIZON

Jetbus 5 stands as a defining work—the culmination of my aspirations and my final project as an in-house designer at PT Adi Putro Wirasejati. It marks the closing of a significant creative chapter, where vision, experience, and design philosophy converged into a single, complete expression.

Following Jetbus 5, I chose to step onto the next stage of my professional journey. Carrying the same spirit forward, I continue my design exploration through an independent design studio I founded, NEOSID Studio, based in Bandung, Indonesia.

This step is not an ending, but the beginning of a new chapter—one where ideas, character, and design identity are free to evolve further, broader, and more boldly.
